Disney Wish Cruise Ship: Complete Guide and Review

There were lots of nostalgic and historic vibes, with an Old Hollywood menu to match. They felt it was much better than a traditional character meal, even for jaded adults. Compared to, say, a Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom) or Restaurant Akershus (EPCOT), the quality of the character entertainment and interactions is in a class by itself.

Alas, our Disney Wish 3-Day Bahamas Cruise Review was already over. Today, we would be disembarking the ship and heading back to Orlando. Following dinner, it was on to the final show of the cruise in the main theater. The Little Mermaid is a 60-minute, Broadway-style adaptation of the original film.

Start your cruise out right with Disney Seas the Adventure, an embarkation celebration on the first night of your cruise (not to be confused with the sail-away party that happens earlier in the day). This nighttime performance starts out innocently enough, as Captain Minnie hands the helm over to Goofy. The youngest Oceaneers will enjoy this nautically themed play space. Enjoy pipe slides, ship’s wheels, activities and games, and even an occasional visit from Captains Mickey and Minnie. To access this exclusive space, kids age 3-10 literally slide down from the Grand Hall atrium into the check-in for the day.

As much as I wanted to love my chicken schnitzel, I just didn’t. My husband had the beef tenderloin and he thought it was just okay. 1923 gives an old-world Hollywood vibe based on the year that The Walt Disney Company was founded in California. The mix of wood and brown leather gave it a very elegant feel. Plus, we were fortunate to be seated in front of one of the oversized windows with an uninhibited view of the sunset over the ocean.

It has multiple beaches, including an adults-only beach, an on-island kids club area, multiple restaurants, bars, stores, and several in-water attractions, including a play structure and two water slides. I would have loved to spend more time in this space as it was my favorite on the ship. The Cove Bar had a great cocktail menu and a selection of wine and beer. However you like to spend your kid-free time, there is something for everyone on board, and the decor in the adults-only spaces is truly incredible. The first four Disney cruise ships revolutionized dinner at sea by introducing a trio of themed restaurants where you — and the serving crew and other guests — rotate together throughout the nights of your cruise.

Is a Disney Cruise Worth the Cost?

Disney is calling the AquaMouse (the waterslide on Disney Wish) the "first-ever Disney attraction at sea," which is a big statement for a company that knows attractions. If you've sailed on Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy, you've likely experienced the AquaDuck waterslide. And, fine, maybe on my next Wish cruise I'll bring my kids here during the day, too. And if all of that isn't enough, there are four royal suites with a "Sleeping Beauty" theme, two of which feature a wild, two-story floor plan. So, let's fantasize about the soaking tub, private hot tub, two master bedrooms, spiral staircase and two-deck-high stained-glass frieze. Each one-bedroom concierge suite has a separate living room, walk-in closets, two 43-inch TVs and two bathrooms, one of which features a rain shower, a bathtub and a double vanity.

Bathrooms are tasteful and modern, featuring classic white subway tiles. All bathrooms aboard the Wish have bathtubs, a rarity with cruise ships, but a necessity for those with small children. Raised beds create more space by allowing passengers to tuck away their luggage underneath, and every cabin comes with a flat-screen TV that includes the Disney channels.

Do note that the majority, if not all of the pools are not covered so it can get very hot! I went to deck 13 which had some covered, comfy loungers to get a bit of a reprieve from the sun while my husband and sons splashed away. Now imagine a splash pad designed after their favorite Toy Story characters and is located on a cruise ship!

Pools and Splash Pads

Dubbed the “castle on the sea,” the Disney Wish heavily emphasizes some of the company’s MVP IPs. Star Wars, Marvel, Frozen, and more all have strong presences aboard the ship. Just about everything is tied to characters in some fashion, with the Wish feeling very much in line with some of Disney’s other recent additions in its theme parks. While other cruise lines might have dozens of ships with a new one showing up every couple of years, Disney takes its time and works to get it right. A demand-based heating and cooling system onboard adapts in real time to deliver the ideal amount of temperature-controlled air throughout the ship while saving nearly 700 tons of fuel annually. So it’s no surprise that they’d want to have the newest ship, with all its hype, right “next door” to Orlando so people can easily extend their Walt Disney World vacation by tacking on a short cruise.

This open-air eatery features five themed food stalls including the new Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue and Donald’s Cantina. Disney Wish is the first in the DCL fleet to offer dedicated quick-service venues for barbeque and Mexican-inspired fare. Can you believe that there are 6 places to get coffee onboard the Disney Wish! When compared to just the two on the larger Disney Cruise ships, and only one on the smaller ships, this is pretty impressive. They are also spread out around the ship, which is great because it helps keep the congestion down a bit.

If you used the porter service, you can grab your luggage and head to border control. We stood in line for about 30 minutes, waiting to get to the border control agent so we could officially disembark the cruise ship. If I had to give Disney Wish restaurants a review on the dining experiences, I’d rate the ambiance and entertainment factor an A+.

The bathrooms were as nice as the room and spacious, considering you are on a boat. The water pressure was excellent in the shower, and the bathrooms were outfitted with Elemis bath products. They also offer various themed trips based on seasonality, Halloween on the High Seas, and a Very Merrytime Cruise.

Thus, I was concerned that we weren’t going to be able to see or hear the performance. From where we were seated, we could see the stage relatively well. It was a bit harder to hear the performance but we didn’t have to worry about that for long, because they took the show on the road. Oh, and did I mention we enjoyed this meal while taking in the breathtaking views of Castaway Cay as we were sitting in the outdoor dining area of Marceline Market. Located by Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods quick-service stations, The Lookout has a good selection of beer, wine, frozen cocktails, and liquor.

Once they’re here, they can pick from several distinctly themed areas. Note that some pools may be unavailable during portions of the cruise so they can be covered and used as stages/viewing areas for live entertainment. The menu is surprisingly complete, but not necessarily the most exciting.
