A Disney Cruise Line embarkation greeting was already extremely special, but the company has dialed up the magic for kids sailing on Disney Wish. Every child that boards the ship receives a wishing wand to make a "first wish" of the trip and to wish again in the Grand Hall on the final night of the voyage. The latter even features a special appearance by none other than the ship's Fairy Godmother, who kicks off a farewell show. In a pure stroke of genius, Disney added a fun, unconventional way for kids to enter the Oceaneer Club. After checking into the kids club from the Grand Hall on Deck 3, children can zip down a magical slide that takes them straight into the space on Deck 2. For families, one of the best parts of a family cruise with Disney Cruise Line is that kids often want to go to the complimentary kids clubs.

They did, however, get a chance to tour the facilities and were impressed by the decor and ambiance. There’s still a gigantic kids club area that takes up almost an entire deck, but it’s much more intricately themed than prior offerings. You still have four main types of passenger staterooms with lots of individual categories and subcategories.
Azamara Cruises Announces Longer Sailings and New Ports
You can book directly with Disney Cruise Line or via a travel agent and potentially get goodies like an onboard sailing credit. TPG also has a Disney booking partner in Mouse Counselors, should you want assistance with booking your cruise. Before you even leave home for your Disney cruise, you'll learn a bit about how your phone will transform into a "spyglass" from Captain Minnie herself.
Disney Wish Kids Clubs and Teen Clubs
As you eat at one of the 120 tables, you'll have access to a "quantum core" to use throughout your meal. You'll enter the lounge via a room that is dark and serves as a "palate cleanser" from the rest of the ship. Then, once inside, everything from the custom furniture to the liquor bottles and specialty cocktails to the tap handles for the beer is themed accordingly. But this space doesn't merely focus on what is happening "outside" — there's a whole lot going on inside the high-end, sophisticated lounge as well. While it's not as immersive as Disney's other "Star Wars" bars when you factor out the high-tech windows, it's still a cool — and very popular — space. If you want the best of the best, go for the almost 2,000-square-foot Wish Tower Suite, which is set in the forward funnel of the ship.

And if you’re like us it would have helped to know those things ahead of time! Check out the 10 Ways we found that a Disney Wish Cruise is Different. Here, we enjoyed two espresso martinis while listening to the pianist, Alex, perform an 80’s set. While I enjoyed all the Disney theming throughout the cruise, Don was glad to hear something other than Disney music tonight. For starters, we sampled the ham and cheese tart, koldtbord (seafood board), and fields of greens salad between the two of us. Many other cruisers raved about the baked scallops, but Don is allergic so wasn’t able to try it.

All of the characters made their way throughout the dining hall, ensuring that each table had time to interact with them. And my boys LOVED meeting Elsa and Olaf as they wished them a happy birthday. I had a burrito bowl at Donald’s Cantina, which was pretty yummy. Despite the food being tasty, most of Mickey’s Festival of Food options were the more fast-food type of options (outside of the BBQ).
Disney Wish: 9 things to know about Disney's newest ship
But we have to be honest about the cruise experience, since that’s what this post is about. As guests who have been on all of the Disney ships, and can generally navigate layouts pretty well, the fact that we kept getting lost was a little annoying. A big pain point for us, and many other cruisers, is the complete dismantling of deck 4.
Sailing Out of New York City with Disney Cruise Line
In addition to the plethora of bars on board, the Disney Wish has so many options for food. For breakfast, we did a mix of continental breakfast (via room service door card the night before) and Marcelline Market (a massive buffet). Both had a solid list of choices depending on what you enjoy (hot or cold), and the fare was pretty standard.
I’m pretty sure if one of my twins was giving a Disney Wish food review, Mickey’s Smokestack Barbeque would rank the highest. The first thing my husband did when researching the cruise was, after checking the cost, looked at a Disney Wish food review. Because he refused to pay that much for a cruise that only had lackluster food. The good thing about Disney Wish Cruise is there’s something for everyone, with a variety of restaurants and food options.
Well, once you get past the fact that one was built on solid ground and the other is a big boat (sorry Sarah, big ship) sailing the seas. Our reviewers found the Disney Wish to be the ultimate family cruise ship, cementing its spot at the top of our list of the best Disney Cruise Ships. We’re honestly more excited that using newer ships on these tried-and-true Bahamian/Caribbean routes will now free up the other ships to start doing different itineraries in the future. For example, it was announced during September 2022’s D23 Expo that the Disney Wonder would begin offering at least some cruises in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific starting in late 2023.
The AquaMouse is another signature feature that did not live up to our expectations. More than half of the ride was the conveyor belt lift to the top, and even the rest of the experience was not all that exciting. In our opinion, some of the waterslides on other contemporary cruise lines surpass the AquaMouse on the fun scale. After the party, we headed back inside to pop into one more bar, the Keg & Compass. This nautically-themed pub on deck 5 features a menu with a few craft brews available exclusively on Disney Wish.
Our sailing was near capacity, and the dining rooms were indeed crowded, but that's typical of all other Disney cruises we've been on. All the other Disney ships have a bar-and-lounge district that's off-limits to anyone under 18 after 7 p.m. Because of this, I had to spend time discovering where things were located instead of immediately knowing my way around. But it actually ended up being part of the fun and not a negative experience. The only criticism I had was that the welcome-aboard announcement from the crew could've been better.
